The Inner and the Outer

I was one of the participants in a Spring five day workshop in Arles organised and hosted by the Rencontres d’Arles. The group was led and guided by the French photographer, Antoine d’Agata. Working on individual projects this photo-video piece was my contribution to the group’s work.

My project tries to capture photographically the self through the faces and gestures that are associated with various emotions; Portraiture of the inner-self. It involved a total of thrteen kind individuals as well as critical scrutiny and guidance by a master of emotive capture, Antoine d’Agata. My particular thanks to the course assistant Arina Starykh.

I also have to thank the talented composer and musician Neil Cowley who has very kindly agreed to let me use part of his ‘Solitary Refinement’ track in this public showing, poignant music that he created in collaboration with Ben Lukas Boysen. This music was integral to my final selection of portraits.
